Meet the New Mustangs

Kelli Balding - Special Education
Kelli Balding

Hi, my name is Kelli Balding. This is my first year teaching at Mill Creek Elementary School. I am originally from Statesboro, GA. I received my undergraduate degree from Georgia Southern University in the area of Public Health in 2010. After marrying my college sweetheart and having four beautiful children, I realized that I wanted to work in education. In 2017, I began working in Special Education in Effingham County. In May 2020, I received my Master’s in Art and Teaching from Georgia Southern and decided that I would like to teach in my hometown.

In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my family, watching movies and going on walks. I am very excited about the opportunity to work in the community where I grew up. Yay for MCES Mustangs!

I obtained my Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education from Georgia Southwestern in 2017. After graduating in May, I jumped right into a higher education program offered at Georgia Southwestern and received my Masters in Early Childhood Education in 2018. I decided to continue my higher education and obtained my Specialist degree in Early Childhood Education in 2019 from Georgia Southwestern.

I have a love and passion for teaching and promote a positive learning environment in my classroom daily. I love having a sense of “family” in my classroom and strive to build a great relationship with each and every student and their family! I cannot wait to make many more great teaching memories at The Creek!

Sue Kirkland

Hi, my name is Sue Kirkland. This is my first year teaching in Mill Creek, as well as, in Georgia. I recently relocated from upstate NY, from the Lake George region. I graduated from SUNY Plattsburgh in 1999 with a dual certification in Elementary Education, Pre- K - 6 and Special Education, K - 12. I received my Master's from Walden University in Reading and Literacy in 2003.

I am so excited about becoming a Mustang! I hope to inspire and nurture my student's love for learning, just as I have with my two sons. My family and I are looking forward to being a part of the incredible community of Statesboro and I'm certain that we won't miss having 20 degree temperatures and 10 ft. snowbanks from December to March.

Crystal Mock - 2nd grade
Crystal Mock

Hi! My name is Crystal Mock and I am so excited to be joining the team at Mill Creek! I was born and raised in Brooklet, Georgia where I graduated from Southeast Bulloch High School. Following high school, I attended Georgia Southern University where I recently graduated with a degree in Elementary Education.

Though this is my first year as a teacher, I have always had a passion for teaching. I enjoy creating a "home-away-from-home" for students by providing and promoting a positive learning environment. When I'm not focusing on school and my students, I am likely playing with my "zoo" of animals or I am planting something in my garden or exploring the outdoors. I also enjoy watching sports, painting, and spending time with my family. I am looking forward to this year at Mill Creek and I can't wait to create memories with all of the amazing students and their families!

Initially, I did not begin my career in education. I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice/Sociology. After 5 years in the criminal justice field, I later earned my advance degrees in education in Curriculum and Instruction.

I am married; actually a newlywed! I have 2 adult children and 4 additional children joined in love; 3 of those children are also young adults. Last but certainly not least; I have 2 amazing grandbabies! In my spare time, I love reading, writing poetry, shopping, and traveling.  Again, I am thrilled to become a Mustang AND to be teaching my favorite grade!
