Meet the New Mustangs

Administrators

Scott Chapman, Ed.D - Assistant Principal

Scott Chapman

Hello, Mustangs!  After graduating from Chattooga High School in the Appalachian foothills, I moved to Statesboro to attend Georgia Southern University, where I earned my BSEd and MSEd in Middle Grades Education.  Hail Southern!  I later obtained my Doctorate Degree in Teacher Leadership from Walden University.  During my 24 years in public education (23 years at William James Middle School in Statesboro), I have taught Math, Life Science, ELA, and Health and PE.  Many in Statesboro know me as Coach Chapman, having coached football, basketball, track, and soccer for many years.  After leaving the classroom, I have served as a PLC Coordinator, RTI Coordinator, Assistant Principal, and Principal.

I recently stepped down as Principal to spend more time with my amazing wife, Blair, and our 2 incredibly fun daughters, Peyton (12) and Merrin (10).  We enjoy camping, kayaking, splashing in waterfalls, and playing board games as often as possible.

I am beyond excited to start a new chapter in my career as Assistant Principal here at Mill Creek and learn about the magic that happens in elementary schools.  I look forward to ensuring everyone feels safe and supported here at the Creek and that everyone, teachers and students, grows to their maximum potential.  Go Mustangs!

Tammy Francis - Assistant Principal

Tammy Francis

My name is Tammy Francis, and I am honored to be on TEAM Mill Creek Elementary School, the Motivated Mustangs!  I will be serving as one of our assistant principals this year.

The essence of being a school administrator is being a teacher at heart.  The multifaceted experiences in my life consistently reveal my purpose on Earth:  To touch the lives of others in meaningful ways through teaching.  Teaching includes leading, building relationships, learning, and growing.  I believe this is my calling because I enjoy working with students, staff, and other stakeholders today, in the role of an administrator, just as much as I did when I started as a classroom teacher.  As an administrator, I have the opportunity to work with more individuals on a broader scale.  My dedication and commitment to education is evident through a career that spans close to three dazzling decades!

My passion for learning prompted me to pursue and earn an undergraduate and postgraduate degrees:

  • Bachelor or Science in Middle Grades Education

  • Master of Science in Education

  • Education Specialist in Elementary/Middle School Education

  • Education Specialist in Educational Leadership

As a classroom teacher and administrator, I’ve been blessed to work with individuals in multiple capacities at various levels:  daycare, Pre-K, elementary, middle, high, and at the collegiate level with student teachers and their supervisors.  I will forever be grateful for the opportunities as well as the invaluable knowledge gained from each of them.

My hobbies and favorite things include singing, reading inspirationals, occasional baking, and repotting plants.  Acquiring a green thumb is a work in progress!  In addition to my amazing work families, I appreciate relationships with God, family, and friends.

Like teaching, administration is challenging at times, yet very rewarding;  I look forward to sharing in the responsibility of learning, growing, and shaping our future – OUR STUDENTS – our most precious resources.  Let us have an awesome year as we work together in “Constructing a Brighter Future.”

Chris Anderson

Chris Anderson

Hello Mustangs!

After graduating from Statesboro High School, I went on to Georgia Southern University to study Information Technology. After two years as an I.T. major, I changed my major to Music Education. After graduating, I moved to Tampa Bay Florida to teach middle school band at Tomlin Middle School. I spent 10 years building a successful band program achieving some of the highest rankings the school had ever received. I have taught many different musical subjects, including but not limited, to percussion, chorus, general music, and guitar.

After COVID, we decided to move back to Georgia to be with family. I then worked for two years as an Educational Sales Representative for Music & Arts servicing all of southeast Georgia and the Southern part of Bluffton, South Carolina. While I enjoyed my time with Music & Arts, I missed molding the next generation of musicians. That makes me so excited to be a part of Mill Creek Elementary and Bulloch County Schools.

Some of my hobbies include billiards, woodworking, pc games, landscaping and gardening. Most importantly, I love spending time with my wife and my dogs.

Words of Wisdom

Maggie Barnes

Maggie Barnes

Hi, Mustang Family! My name is Maggie Barnes, and I am a second year teacher here at MCES. I am originally from Waycross, Georgia, but I absolutely fell in love with Statesboro while obtaining my Bachelor's of Education and SPED certification from Georgia Southern University. I happily accepted a position here at MCES as a second and third grade EBD teacher! From an early age I knew I wanted to work with students with special needs, and am very passionate about what I do. Seeing my students grow academically, socially, and emotionally is overwhelmingly rewarding.

I have a passion for traveling, and love to share these experiences with my students. When I am not traveling, you can find me shopping, having brunch, or spending time with my friends/family. On Saturdays, however, you can find me at the dog park with my dog, Kodak. Kodak is a five year old german shepard mix, and my absolute best friend. He loves to attend my student's after school events!

Mill Creek is truly an extraordinary place full of extraordinary people. I am so honored to be a part of the Mustang family!
